Hut Warden (Backcountry Ranger) in Mount Aspiring National Park representing the Department of Conservation in a professional manner while monitoring visitors actions and safety, responding to emergencies, basic Search and Rescue duties, maintaining walking tracks, huts, structures and other facilities as required.
Conduct patrols in the backcountry in adverse conditions for 15+ days at a time using map and compass as needed.
Provide accurate information, advice and assistance to the public on weather, tracks, safety, facilities, and conservation and wildlife management issues.
Utilize hand tools to do carpentry and plumbing to repair and maintain huts, signs, and other structures.
Utilize various hand tools to maintain and repair tracks including shovels, picks, crow bars, pulaskis, mattocks, rakes, hand saws, loppers, axes and various other tools.
Monitor visitors impacts and monitoring endangered wildlife.
Monitor and check visitors’ compliance with concessions, permits and licenses.
Respond to SAR and emergency medical situations via HF and VHF radio.
Ensure that all health and safety, fire and other applicable regulations and rules relating to visitor use(Leave no Trace) of the huts and campgrounds are met.
Assist helicopters with loading and unloading of supplies and passengers.
Managing large groups of people at a time.

Handle negative comments in a professional manner.

Hiked up to 16 miles over rough terrain, carrying chainsaws and other equipment above 9000 feet.
Used chainsaws, brush cutters, bow saws, pole saws, pulaskis, shovels, picks and other various hand tools to maintain sites.

Slovenia - Triglav NP - 5 day hike via alpine peaks.
Sweden - Valadalin Nature Reserve - 5 day hike.
Croatia, Thailand, and Austria - Various day hikes .

 

Other Pursuits     Rock-climbing, soccer, snowboarding, cross country skiing, canoed the Allagash River

                                in Maine(100 miles), former collegiate wrestler - 10 years experience. Captain of wrestling team in high school and college and captain of soccer team in high school.
