After recently graduating from Pratt Institute as a photography major this past May, ideally I would love to travel to another part of the United States or the world to ride horses. Through my past three summers spent as a trail guide in Montauk, NY I feel that I am qualified for the job. I have also spent time volunteering on a horse farm in Argentina working with cattle and horses. This past September I also volunteered on a horse farm in Greece where I worked with young horses. I could be available for work immediatly and hoping that I will have the chance to join your ranch. Thank you!

hi, i am Debbie (20) from West-Germany. When searching the Internet for work on a horse ranch, I found this homepage and read it with great interest. I'm looking for a staging point for at least 1 year .You offer me accommodation and perhaps a little pocket money to survive and I offer you my work force. I ride since I can remember and have great interest in the life of cowboys and the whole "wild western story". This would be a dream for me when I could get the possibility for a long time to lead this life. I also want to fresh up my English. But in the first line, I would like to cooperate with horses and a completely new life. I now quit my training as an office clerk and would like to fullfill my dreams. I know the work on a ranch can be hard but I really want to! I would be happy to hear from you - if you can not offer what you may know someone who makes such a thing. I hope my English is not as bad – so you can understand what I like to say. I hopefully hear from you soon. Debbie

To whom it may concern, I am a 22 year old student from Germany following an English study in the Netherlands. I am studying International Leisure Management at Breda University of Applied Sciences. I have almost finished my second year, now preparing for my third year in which we have the chance to go on a 7 month internship abroad. I am a passionate horse lover who is planning her future within this field. I have previous experiences at horse ranches and now would like to search for an exciting internship at a horse ranch in combination with my Leisure Management study. My main goal for this internship is to combine my passion for horses and enhance my knowledge and experience in the working field of the Leisure industry. In future I will definately want to work in the horse business. Even though I do not know yet in which direction. But I enjoy working and being with horses so much that I have discovered it not only being a hobby for me but much more. I would describe myself as a self-confident person who is willing to take challenges and learn from her actions. I love communicating with people from different cultures and like to use my different languages in order to improve them. I feel comfortable with taking responsibiliy with a certain degree of guidance at the beginning. I love spontaneous actions where you have to show initiative, flexibility and creativeness. Thank you very much for your time, I am looking forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Lisa Baker-Price

Hi; I was born and raised on a cattle ranch in southern Saskatchewan,my then managed a Quarter Horse Ranch and i rode and showed horses for over 10 years, but this is not about me. My son is 13 he plays both goalie and as a skter on our local "A" hockey team, he plays football and soccer and this year has started riding steers we went to a steer riding school in May, he rode at Water Valley last weekend, he has another steer riding school in Nanton this weekend and then he is in the Crossfield rodeo and we have numerous others to enter. He wants to work on a ranch and with horses and has a desire to rope, I loved the horses and wish I could provide him with that life style. what I am asking is if there would be an opportunity for a green hand and someone at your ranches in Alberta that could show him the ropes and give him a job. He is also a very good worker with an above 80% average in school. I do believe this would be a great experience for him and would make his summer. We are not looking for full time Sincerely David Clark

Dear Hidden Trails employer, As a soon-to-be graduate from Hamilton College, I wish to be considered for employment as a trail guide at one of the Hidden Trails ranches. I have extensive experience with horses and travel and wish to combine both of these passions. I have traveled and completed community service in many Latin American countries, and during my college career I went abroad for a semester in Ireland and South Africa. This summer I will be leading a community service trip to Costa Rica for a month and I hope to start work with Hidden Trails when I return at the end of July. I live on a farm with 20 horses and started trail riding from an early age. My family owns and runs a business that includes guided trail rides. I am employed to guide these rides when I am not in school or working elsewhere. In high school, I rode and competed at the college level in dressage for four years. I furthered my familiarity with riding techniques in college when I joined the Hamilton equestrian team and began jumping. I have been an active member of the team, not only as a rider, but also as a team officer. In summer 2006, I taught horseback riding to approximately 350 high school students at Camp Echo, providing me with the ability to effectively teach riding, and work successfully with young people. I am also very familiar with equine-assisted therapy, aiding people with mental and physical disabilities. I have been riding most my life, and I seek to explore new opportunities where I can pursue my passion in riding and be an overall positive influence to the Hidden Trails community. please do not hesitate to e-mail me at isabellemckusick@gmail.com or call me at (413) 834-5064. I look forward to speaking with you soon! All the Best, Isabelle McKusick

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to you in response to your advert concerning the job vacancy for a trail guide/ a trail guide help in SOUTH AMERICA. I am going to explore the continent FROM DECEMBER 2008 ONWARDS for at least a few months. I will be looking for a job with horse trekking there. By then (that is JULY – NOVEMBER 2008) I would like to find a similar position somewhere in Europe, for instance: Switzerland, Scandinavia, Spain. I have had a look at your website and got under impression that I would enjoy working for you. Please, take my application into consideration and shortly let me know whether (hopefully yes) you find it relevant and convincing enough to possibly invite me to join your team. I realize that it is not easy for you to make up your mind as to employ somebody whom you do not know in person. Let me therefore write something about myself so that you could decide if I would possibly match your expectations. I am an open-minded Polish female of 30 years old, with a sense of humour and plenty of positive energy. I am regarded as a sociable and active type, for, indeed, I enjoy my friends’ company and outdoors sports (horse riding, sailing, cycling, skiing, mountaineering). All the same, I am not particularly extrovert: I read a lot and never get bored whilst alone. Apart from horses, I am particularly interested in philosophy, sociology and languages. In fact, I like learning new things and it is unlikely that my interest in the world should ever come to an end. I am 168 cm tall and I weigh 58 kg. I don’t smoke and I am a vegetarian. I studied simultaneously in two faculties at Warsaw University: Polish Philology and Applied Linguistics, with English as my major language. Having defended both MA dissertations, I am free to follow my other, non-academic passions even more intensely than I have so far. I work as a proofreader in a publishing house and as a translator, but I am also a qualified instructor of sailing and horse riding of several-year-long experience in teaching. I can honestly assure you that not only am I a horse enthusiast but also a skillful equestrian and a reliable group leader. I have worked with horses on a regular basis for many years. I started as a barn help and then as a groom in a student riding school near Warsaw (the city I live in) that has stabling for 30 horses. My responsibilities included all aspects of horse care. I was also the one who often took over from the instructors when beginners needed help in grooming and tacking up, and who, along with the owner, assisted vets with the horses. Once I had eventually managed to improve my horsemanship and English enough to study for the internationally respected British Horse Society qualifications, I applied for a scholarship in an Approved Training Centre in Cornwall – T.M. International SUNRISING. Set deep in the Cornish countryside, in an area officially designated as one of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the school provided an idyllic location for study and enjoying horse riding in beautiful surroundings. I spent there full 10 months diligently studying for my exams (theory and practice) and helping in the daily running of the school (carrying out various routine tasks such as tack cleaning, keeping the stables tidy, escorting the RDA riders, taking adult clients out hacking on the moors, teaching riders of all abilities, lounging horses). After passing the exams and obtaining my BHS Stage 2 certificate at the end of the academic year, I decided to spend my holidays on gaining further experience in one of the best BHS training centres: The Trent Park in London, where I combined teaching and studying with work as a groom. Moreover, I worked with two classical riding trainers of distinction: Felicity Mann (Alexander technique professional, GB) and Sue Nevill-Parker (running Arrow Equestrian Centre, GB – annually hosting clinics by Eric Hebermann). I hold teaching qualifications from the Polish Horse Society and for four years now have worked as a horse riding instructor. My job consists mainly in classifying horses as to suitability of the clients’ riding level (i.e. assessing a rider’s ability and then providing them with a suitable mount), managing and instructing the group in a friendly yet firm enough manner, giving riding lessons in the arena or leading hacks for fitter equestrians. I also have some supervisory responsibilities, as I have to take temporary charge of the whole school. Before opting exclusively for riding and teaching, I had worked as a stable manager for six months in the stable where I teach now. Despite stabling up to 40 horses, the establishment employed on a shift basis 20 instructors and more than 25 working students as well as 2 full-time maintenance workers. Moreover, I ride two livery horses and take part in local dressage competitions on those. I ride almost every morning, including one lesson per week with my trainer, thanks to whom the development of my riding skills has not come to a halt. I am very patient with horses and thoroughly enjoy dressage. In the spring or early autumn I also work as a guide on multi-day horse riding tours through Poland (please find enclosed a picture of me taken last year – I am the one in a hat). With the travelling conditions being quite primitive, these treks are only for advanced riders who can endure long hours in the saddle. However, they are so popular that they get always booked up well in advance. No wonder, since travelling on horseback is a fantastic way of experiencing some, otherwise practically inaccessible, amazingly picturesque areas. In the summer 2006 I worked on Achill Island in Ireland as a trek leader and the sole-charge head instructor. The customers came mainly from the UK. We rode Connemara ponies and Irish Sports Horses. A marvelous experience! Upon my coming back to Poland, I resumed my previous jobs: as a riding instructor and as a proofreader. I spent plenty of hours in the saddle leading treks, as well as plenty of hours in the riding arena giving lessons. Last year I spent whole 3 summer months in Iceland working as a trek guide and a long-tour guide for Ishestar, an Icelandic equestrian company of distinction. I enjoyed the Icelandic horses a lot and the country in general. I would like to work with you for 2-4 months, starting sometime at the beginning of July. In May I am leading my trek in the Polish mountains, so I need to stay in the country until then at least (http://www.horsetreks.pl I would be very grateful if you considered this letter favourably. Should you have any questions, please, do not hesitate to ask. I am really looking forward to your response as soon as practicable at: magdalemis@wp.pl Yours faithfully, Magdalena Misiuk

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to you in response to your advert concerning the job vacancy for a trail guide/ a trail guide help. I have had a look at your website and got under impression that I would enjoy working for you. As a strong believer in the classical horsemanship, I am particularly focused on the employer’s like-mindedness regarding methods of working with horses. My approach has a direct affinity with what the great masters of horsemanship preach, namely that in order to be a whole-hearted and truly successful equestrian, one must develop a deep understanding of horses. I worked in various stables and with people of whose attitudes to their horses I sometimes approved and sometimes not really. Honestly speaking, I am looking for a place where the horses would feel happy and well-looked-after. Please, take my application into consideration and shortly let me know whether (hopefully yes) you find it relevant and convincing enough to possibly invite me to join your team. I realize that it is not easy for you to make up your mind as to employ somebody whom you do not know in person. I have a range of skills developed from extensive experience in a wide range of equine disciplines. I am a Natural Horsewoman and have trained with Fiona Foy renowned dressage trainer, as well as training with Gary Witheford in Witheford Equine horsemanship techniques. From a background in pony club I competed nationally in all disciplines including western riding. For the last eight years I have trained and broken my own horses and trained and schooled horses for friends and colleagues both for general riding and for competition. After a period in graphic design when I competed for my university, I returned full time to horsemanship. Working first with Arabs and more recently with Spanish Stallions developing skills in selecting and training imported horses for sale, before joining Gary and gaining further experience within the racing industry, taking on responsibility for yard management. As well as continuing to develop my own techniques and skills I have managed a yard of up to 30 horses and 6 staff, developing personal skills welcoming clients and horses through successful training in Witheford techniques. I believe that all horses have qualities and my aim is to bring out the best in each horse. I work quietly and confidently with horses and clients establishing trust and confidence.

My name is Byron Gardner. I grew up on my father's ranch in the West Elk Mountains of Western Colorado where we continue to raise Black Angus and Black Polled Simmental cattle, as well as registered Morgan horses - my family has raised Morgans for four generations. At the age of 16 I went to school in Massachusetts at the #1 ranked liberal arts college in the U.S. There I studied to be a wildlife biologist, and as such have worked the majority of my adult life. I have been fortunate enough to travel extensively on five continents, learning from new people, cultures, and landscapes. Mine is a very diverse background, and so I find it quite easy to relate to people from all walks of life. I bring to a new job great people skills, a professional presence, excellent speaking skills, an ability to make each client feel special, and safe, a patient ability to teach even first time riders how to ride, and feel confident on a horse, a lifetime of experience in the saddle, a fluencey in Spanish (I have studied, but am not fluent in: French, Persian, Swahili, Quechua, Shuar), and finally a sincere passion for the wild places of this planet, and a love of horses. I am, as Melville wrote of himself in the South Pacific, "A vagabond at ease on thand camera traps, as using telemetry readings taken from a fixed wing plane using aerial photos, topographical maps, and a GPS unit • Aided in luring bird in and captured them using a mist-net or sli.........

I have been a avid horse lover since the day i was born. I took riding lessons until i was 10 and was forced to stop because my trainer moved. Regardlesss, i love horse and riding and it has always been a dream of mine to spend time in the backcountry on horseback. I am also a very avid outdoors man. I have hiked the Appalachain Trail, grand canyon tetons, yellowstone natl. park, and many others. Also i have been on numerous rafting/kayaking trips and i have an excellent sense and respect for the outdoors. I have been certified in wilderness first responder and first aid by the National Outdoor Leadership School, and spent a small amount of time with the Idaho State search and rescue team while attending a wilderness outdoor survival school for 35 days. I know the outdoors very well and im extremely comfortable there and i want to get back into riding horses again and learn how to properly take care of and ride a horse well. Thanks for your time and hope to hear back from you soon. Sincerely Andy Itule - Phoenix, AZ and 23 years old

Hello my name is Albert and I want to work for you this summer. I am from New York City spending my summers riding Paso Finos on the beach in Puerto Rico. I am a very experienced responsible and trustworthy worker. I have a huge respect and undying love for horses. I have been riding all my life and am now drawn to Iceland to pursue my passion for trail riding. A little about me: I am currently in my third year of college. I grew up around horses; one of my first words was Appaloosa. I rode English for years, competing in Hunter/Jumpers with my 16.2 Warmblood in New Jersey. When away at school in Manhattan I missed my horses and found an unbelievable job at Tropical Trailrides in Puerto Rico, named the top horseback riding experience in the Caribbean. I have just finished my second summer in the tropics and would absolutely love to have my third summer job be in Iceland. I hear the Icelandic horse is a lot like the Paso Fino of Puerto Rico and would be thrilled to work for you this summer as a very qualified trail guide. I am willing to do whatever it takes to be a part of the Icelandic horseback riding experience. Let me know if you are interested or you know the name of someone who would be. This is a dream of mine that I am so excited about. Thank you for your time. -Albert Senavitis
